Your blood donations can make a life-saving difference for someone battling cancer, a patient in need of surgery, an accident victim and many, many others. When you give blood, you literally give life.
Facts you may want to know when considering making a blood donation:
- Every two seconds someone needs blood.
- Blood donations are broken down into three components; red blood cells, platelets and plasma. Therefore, just one blood donation can help save up to three different lives.
- You can give blood every 56 days, up to six times a year.
- Only 5% of those eligible to give blood actually support the blood program. That is why every donation makes a real difference.
- Most people are eligible to give blood if they are 17 years of age or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in good health.
